How has Mexico’s Ubiquitous Tableside Purse and Coat Rack not Become a Thing Here?

The first time I used one of these racks we were celebrating our anniversary having dinner at Mision 19 in Tijuana. Since then, I have come to appreciate this very Mexican amenity. Personally, I think we should have this in the U.S. The only restaurant I’ve been to in the U.S. where I’ve seen these marvelously useful amenities is at The Lot in La Jolla, CA.

They allow you to hang your purse, bag, hat, even a jacket right by your table. No slinging over the back of the chair wondering if someone will walk by and snatch your bag, no trying to figure out how not to set your bag on the ground or try to hold it in your lap while you sip and chew, no grabbing for a possible hook under a dirty table or bar top.

Nope, you simply slide the tableside rack next to you and “ahí está” belongings are in sight and in reach.
